Difficult things, vulnerability, celebrations and more: 10 articles worth reading!
The round-ups are back, baby!! I usually cringe at myself for saying things like that, but really, who cares?! That’s how I said it in my head today.
I’ve been really enjoying reading some vulnerable pieces, some lifestyle, and some interesting new ideas and reflections from writer’s I’ve missed.
I think you might like some of these too. . .

Good Friends Help Friends Set Boundaries
By Ashlee Gadd of
This one made me think more deeply about friendship and love. I saw myself in both types of friendships that Ashlee describes and it was eye-opening, and a lovely read. I’m happy to think more deeply about this as a, somewhat, new area of my life I really want to navigate with care and caution.
Doing hard things has taught me a valuable lesson
By Lyndsay of
Spoiler: I loved Lyndsay’s description of seeing another woman climb a mountain and knowing she could do it too. She gives so many other great examples and writes a lovely piece about this topic that I think we will all resonate with or aspire to.
It’s not The Sims, It’s Substack!
By Claire Venus of
This spoke to exactly where I am at the minute with my writing and sharing. Every story Claire told throughout this piece, I was engaged in.
A lovely piece that will get you as a writer, but also remind anyone about the power and joy of connection.
By Rachael Tiss of
Lovely story telling about a friendship diverging and reconnecting over the years, beautifully written, and a narrative, about on-and-off friendships, that I don’t see written about too much. Just lovely.
We have more than just five senses
By Jonny Miller on
Emma generously shares this guest piece from Jonny that was incredibly interesting. Expanding on one of those things you don’t realise you’ve just accepted, the five senses, that seems to have so much more to it.
Probably really intriguing for anyone who’s trying to do any internal work or has experienced burn out of some kind.
How vulnerable is too vulnerable?
By
of Little ThingsIf you’ve read my most recent post — Have I failed? — you’ll probably know I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. Vulnerability and over-sharing.
I’ve never really considered that over-sharing might be a people-pleasing thing, as I’m not really a natural over-sharer (Yes — people-pleaser!). This was interesting. Ali really gave me a lot to think about in terms of boundaries that I still need to solidify.
By Michelle of Michelle Varghoose
I felt something reading this piece. I understand how easily you can fall into these traps over and over again. If you feel like, maybe, you’ve not excelled in your ‘career’ yet, you might resonate with this too.
Celebrating 6 months on Substack!
By Charlene Storey of
This piece was so helpful for me at the time of reading, I don’t think it was quite what I expected and I think you’ll love it as well if you’re a writer here, or if you have any kind of hobby, or small or big dream you’re carving out.
So optimistic, generous, and made me feel hopeful.
Notes On Living #47 - Hello, from the other side of summer!
By Alicia Kaye of
Alicia describes nuance in life so perfectly.
This piece is so personal to her summer, but I felt like it was describing how I feel in multiple ways. I always enjoy her beautiful writing. You might too.
By Silvio Castelletti of
So honest and understandable. Bringing in a lovely idea from Mo Gawdat, utilising Silvio’s own experience of different kinds of love, weaving in conversation and, briefly, music. Plus, a sweet ending. I just really loved the storytelling and challenging of ideas.
I’m clearly thinking a lot about friendship, sharing, and love. What are you thinking about most lately?
If you choose any of these to read, let me know!
I’d love to hear which pieces intrigued you — or share another piece in the comments you think I might like.
Thanks for this round up! Excited to dive in🙌🏼
Jess, thank you so much for the shout out. It means so much for me to be included among many writer friends I admire and new writers whom I'm excited to read. Wishing you well
